Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU) is the largest tertiary institution funded by the Hong Kong Government through the University Grant Council. It currently has a full-time academic staff establishment of approximately 1,000 and a full-time equivalent student population of about 13,500. The university library is housed in a 6-storey purpose-designed building with a net area of 14,000 square meters, providing 2,700 reader places. Its collection is one of the largest in East Asia and it has approximately 1,100,000 volumes to which more than 40,000 volumes are added annually.

Programs offered by Civil and Structural Engineering Department
Ph.D., M.Phil, M.Sc., MEng, BEng, and Higher Diploma programmes in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering in Full-time and/or Part-time modes are offered. The undergraduate programmes are recognized by a number of countries including the U.S.A., U.K., Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Canada through the Washington Accord. The tuition fee for all degree programmes is HK$42,100 per year. Foreign students are normally only admitted to full-time programmes.

Research
The Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at HKPolyU are active in a number of research areas; namely air and odour, coastal and hydraulic engineering, geotechnology, high performance concrete, steel structures, structural dynamics, transportation engineering and water & waste. The staff members of the Department are also active in conducting consultancy work for the industry.

A number of studentships are available to local and overseas research students with good academic background, which is currently at a rate of HK$16,000 per month (US$1 = HK$7.8).
