SHOULD THE LEARNING PROCESS BE COMPUTERISED?, by Manfred Federau
SHOULD THE LEARNING PROCESS BE COMPUTERISED?
No, of course not; or hopefully not completely - the process of learning and the principles of motivation will always gain from real human interaction and face to face communication. However, the use of computers has become a very important element in education, especially in engineering education.
Alongside with using computers for solving technical problems and doing administrative jobs a new function is slowly but unavoidably growing inside education: the use of computers as a pedagogical tool, also known as Computer Aided Learning (CAL).
The next General Assembly of the AECEF will be held during the course of the Second AECEF International Symposium, Odense Denmark 5-7 May 1997. Here the undersigned intend to bring forward a proposal to make CAL the theme of the next AECEF International Symposium (Autumn 1998 or spring 1999). If the AECEF approves this proposal the idea should be to form an international group of 12 - 20 persons who are interested in CAL, who can prepare the basis for the next symposium, and who can continue as an AECEF-based network for future development and distribution of CAL.
People who participate in the 2nd AECEF Symposium will receive more information on this subject. Others, AECEF members or not, who may read this, are welcome to register their interest in the project. Please contact:
Please tell us about your background, your experience with computers as a pedagogical tool and/or your expectations of the project. As soon as sufficient interest is registered and AECEF approval has been obtained, the search for money for travel and other expenses will start and an initial meeting will be arranged.
