Instalační šachty z požárního hlediska (Plumbing Shafts and Their Fire Safety)

Abstrakt

Disertační práce v úvodní části analyzuje rizika vertikálního šíření požáru instalačními šachtami a hodnotí konstrukční a technické řešení těchto specifických prostor z hlediska pasivní a aktivní požární ochrany.

Abstract

In its introductory part, the dissertation thesis analyses the risks of the vertical spread of fires through plumbing shafts and assesses the structural and technical design of these specific facilities in terms of passive and active fire safety. The thesis further focuses on the present-day fire engineering state of the art applying computing technology for the simulations (mathematical modelling) of fire effects in encloses spaces. These progressive computational tools are ever more often introduced into the design sphere from research and development empowering professionally competent users to expediently design buildings or their components with enhanced efficiency and safety. It is, however, the users applying these very procedures in the first place who may easily make computational errors and inaccuracies amounting up to one order of magnitude. The core of the experimental part of the thesis, therefore, are computer simulations of the effects of a controlled fire spreading inside a shaft space which, however, are studied not only theoretically, but are confronted with the fire experiment. A simplified model of a shaft is created based on the structural design of a continuous and a separated plumbing shaft. The laboratory shaft model serves for the measurement of the basic fire technical variables – the temperature, air flow velocity, incident heat flux, and for the monitoring of accompanying phenomena – the flame spread along a substitute flammable surface of shaft walls and the risks of flame flashover over the ceiling barrier in a separated shaft. Using the same boundary conditions a mathematical shaft model has also been created in the latest, already sixth testing version of the FDS 6 (Fire Dynamics Simulator) programme built up using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) algorithms. The laboratory results are subsequently confronted with the computer simulation-based prediction. The dissertation thesis also analyses a partial experiment addressing the issue of flammable utility cores and shafts in the existing prefabricated housing development from the second half of the 20th century. Different specimens of wall panels (partitions) used for the sheathing of plumbing shafts were sampled as part of the utility core reconstruction project to be successively subjected to laboratory testing at high temperatures in the cone calorimeter. In this way, fire technical characteristics which are otherwise not commonly available in professional literature were obtained. To conclude, the thesis sums up the findings obtained during the completed fire experiments that are vital for the users and the authors of the FDS software, and also lists common structural defects and recommendations related to the fire safety of plumbing shafts relevant for the construction practice.
