D24 TDL - Selected topics in daylighting

Selected topics in daylighting

ABSTRACT

The topic of lighting needs to be explored in its complexity with overlaps into a number of technical and non-technical areas. The new European standard Daylighting in buildings (2018) introduces a number of new methods for assessing the quality of the daylighting in buildings. New technologies and tools suitable for assessing daylight in buildings and beyond expand the possibilities for prediction and optimization in lighting practice.

COURSE CONTENTS

Opening theoretical lectures summarizing the general topic will be followed by specialized lectures that will deepen the knowledge in the chosen topics. An integral part of the course are the practical applications. Computer simulations will be used to predict and optimize daylighting. Measurements will be used to validate the simulation, or for determination of selected light engineering variables and parameters, including illuminance, brightness, the ability of materials to transmit light, the effect of light pollution and reflectance, etc. The content of the course will be adapted according to the focus of the specific doctoral thesis

GOALS OF STUDY

In this course, students consider the assessment of lighting in terms of ensuring visual comfort, health aspects of lighting and meeting the requirements for spaces according to their specific functions. A balance is sought between the numerous requirements for indoor environmental quality, energy efficiency, economic and operational parameters.
