CV in brief:

Petr Hajek is Professor of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, former Head of Department of Architectural Engineering at Faculty of Civil Engineering and senior researcher of Composite Structures Laboratory at University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings.

He is engaged in research in the field of sustainable building construction, complex building quality assessment, LCA, optimization of concrete structures, non-traditional concrete reinforcement and the use of recycled materials in building structures.

P. Hájek is a member of fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete). Until 2014, he was the Vice-Chairman of the fib Commission 3 – Environmental Aspects of Design and Construction of Concrete Structures, and since 2015 to 2021 he was the Chairman of the Commission 7 – Sustainability and convener of TG 7.1. Sustainable Concrete – general framework.  He is a member of General Assembly and a member of the Technical Council fib. Since 2005 he has been a member of the board of the international organization iiSBE (International Initiative for Sustainable Built Environment). P. Hájek is board member of Czech Concrete Society and chairman of the Editorial Board of the journal Beton TKS.

In 2020, he was awarded the fib Medal of Merit for his many years of work in the international organization fib.

He is an author of more than 200 research-based publications, 3 patents, 12 design and utility models, 5 books and 5 text books.

Research focus:

sustainable construction of buildings, complex assessment and rating of building performance quality, LCA, optimization of concrete structures and use of recycled materials.

Professional activities:

  • Member of Technical Council and General Assembly of fib (International Federation for Structural Concrete), member of Commission 7, convener of fib C7  TG C7.1 – Sustainable Concrete - general framework and member of Commission 10.
  • Former chairman of Commission 7 - Sustainability
  • Board member of iiSBE – International Initiative for Sustainable Built Environment and chairman of CSBS iiSBE Czech – Czech Sustainable Building Society.
  • Board member of CBS - Czech Concrete Society
