The 1st AECEF International Symposium "EDUCATION FOR CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND SURVEYING" will be held at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic in September 25 - 27, 1995. The First General Assembly of the AECEF will be held at the time of the Symposium.
The main goal of the Symposium is to bring together civil engineering educators (involved in engineering, building construction, surveying, environmental engineering), researchers, building professionals and others with an interest in construction/building education, study programmes, curricula and research from around the world for exchange of ideas, findings and experience and for proposals of modern methods in civil engineering education and its relation to research.
The general topic of the Symposium is "Education for Civil and Environmental Engineering and Surveying".
The themes of the Symposium will cover:
formulating the basic requirements for the education of civil engineers in the first decade of the 21st century; formulating a civil engineers' charter;
recommendations for European studies within the framework of AECEF member universities, compatibility of civil engineering study programmes, comparision of curricula and length of study, systems and structure of study, requirements for civil engineering graduates, academic degrees, etc.;
the influence of social, economic, and legal factors on civil engineering study programmes, the teaching of economics, social sciences and languages, their role in the education of civil engineers;
requirements for the education of civil engineers in engineering information science and environmental engineering;
a prognosis of developments and major tendencies in building research after the year 2000, reliability of structures, new demands on structures;
the consequences of global geopolitical changes on the development of civil engineering education.
The registration fee of the Symposium is 300,- DM. The fee covers a copy of the symposium proceedings, the technical excursion, the welcome dinner and lunches.

Persons wishing to submit a paper for presentation at the Symposium should prepare an abstract in English, not exceeding 300 words, before January 15th, 1995. The Steering Committee will review the abstracts and call for full papers by March 15th, 1995. Full papers in camera ready form must be submitted by May 15th, 1995 along with the registration fee.
